Music

The music program at Lyndhurst Primary School is based on the Musical Futures approach that engages students in practical music making and links with the school’s philosophy of play-based and inquiry learning. All children have the opportunity to learn a wide variety of musical instruments as well as being immersed with singing and dancing learning experiences. Students are exposed to real musical activities and genuine musical situations and environments. The junior classes explore ukulele, xylophones, percussion, boom whackers, cajon and African drumming. The senior classes learn to play rock band instruments, acoustic guitar, recorder and use technology to create electronic music. Students learn to respect and acknowledge others when performing and learn to be responsible with all the equipment. When trying a new instrument, students are encouraged to persist and have a go. Along with the classroom programs we offer a variety of extracurricular music programs including our Ukulele Orchestra, Senior Choir and State Schools Spectacular.
