Excursion, Incursions & Camps

Each school year, students at Lyndhurst Primary School are offered a range of enriching experiences designed to extend and enhance their learning. These opportunities may include excursions, incursions, sporting events and camps. Each event is carefully planned to align with the school curriculum and to complement classroom learning in meaningful and engaging ways.

School events play a vital role in a child’s education. They provide diverse, hands-on experiences that connect classroom knowledge to the real world. Through these activities, students develop critical thinking skills, build confidence and independence, strengthen social connections, and gain a deeper understanding of their community and diverse cultures. These experiences support both academic achievement and holistic personal development beyond the traditional classroom setting.

Personal and social development:

  • Builds resilience and confidence: By overcoming physical and mental challenges in a new setting, students gain a sense of accomplishment and learn to step outside their comfort zones.

  • Improves social skills: Camps require students to interact with peers and teachers in different ways, promoting teamwork, cooperation, and respect for others through shared activities and accommodation.

  • Develops independence: Being away from home in a structured environment helps students become more self-reliant and independent.

  • Encourages leadership: Activities are often designed to give students opportunities to lead their peers, helping them develop leadership skills that can be applied later in life.

Educational and health benefits:

  • Reinforces classroom learning: Camps can provide practical, hands-on experiences that relate to academic subjects, such as science field trips or history-based activities at cultural sites.

  • Encourages physical activity: Many camp activities are designed to be physically engaging, which promotes fitness and may inspire a lifelong love for outdoor recreation.

  • Promotes a connection with nature: Time away from digital screens and the classroom allows students to engage with the natural world, which can decrease stress and increase gratitude.

  • Offers new experiences: Camps introduce students to new skills and activities they might not encounter otherwise, broadening their horizons and fostering a sense of adventure.

The staff at Lyndhurst Primary School are passionate about providing these valuable learning opportunities and cherish the chance to connect with students beyond the classroom, strengthening relationships and supporting their growth in every aspect of school life.

‘Camp brings out the resilience, bravery and camaraderie in everyone. Whether that’s spending your first night away from parents, cheering a friend on at the Giant Swing, or holding a giant snake! Grade 4 camp was so much fun, and I can’t wait to do it all again next year!’ Miss Kondos
